X OR KING
James H. Cone contrasts the lives of Malcolm X and Martin Luther King. Martin Luther King came from a family of love and support. King developed with what Cone calls an “inner fortitude.” He had self-confidence and self-discipline; he viewed America with optimism. Malcolm X came from a home of strife and terror. His violent background taught him to view America with pessimism. The family and peers of these two men made the difference. The love and affirmation that is received from parents will probably make the difference in the way a child views the world.
