Uncle Jesse had married Lydia. After having two children, Lydia was not quite behaving normally. She was careless and had weird ideas. Finally he had to put Lydia in a (psychiatric) hospital. At first he believed his wife would get better soon. She never did get better. But he never divorced her or had thoughts of remarrying. Uncle Jesse made a vow before God with the woman he loved to live in lifelong covenant for better or for worse. It got much worse. But he kept that covenant by God’s grace, one day at a time.
