THE JOY OF THE LORD
Here are a few of the early traditions and quotes of the emerging church of the Lord Jesus Christ: It is said that following the thrill of the resurrection on Sunday, the early saints gathered together on Monday to feast, to sing and to dance. One author wrote, “With Eastertide began ‘the laughing of the redeemed and the dancing of the liberated.'” We do not know if this tradition is true. Some say that it was inspired by the famous Easter midnight sermon of John Chrysostom, of the fourth century. In that message, he described a vision of Christ’s confronting the devil and laughing at him. This theme has echoed down through the years in the Christian experience. St. Francis of Assisi advised, “Leave sadness to the devil. The devil has reason to be sad.” Martin Luther wrote, “God is not a God of sadness, but the devil is.
