FAMILY COMMUNION
The children of pastors bear their own special cross in life. Four year old Betsy spends two days a week at the church office with me while my wife works. On Sundays, she comes early to church and stays late. I suppose it is only natural that some of the language of the church would rub off on her impressionable young mind. I was surprised however when I overheard her telling a member of the church about our plans to vacation with other members of my wife’s family. When asked where we were going for our vacation, Betsy responded, “We’re going to Colorado for a family communion.” When you pause to think about it, Betsy’s words make good theological sense. Communion is a lot like a family reunion as the children of God gather at his table to celebrate the tie that binds and remember the story of faith that makes us one in Christ Jesus our Lord.By Peter K.
