A LESSON FROM A TRAMP
I want to share with you a little story: An outstanding Christian, invited to speak at a women’s luncheon, startled the ladies by telling them it was really a tramp who changed her life. She was washing the breakfast dishes one morning, she told them, when someone knocked at the back door. She opened it and saw a tramp standing at the foot of the steps. Politely and deliberately he took off his crumpled hat and bowed. “Madam,” he said, “I am ashamed to beg, but I have tried to find work and failed. I will gladly work for my breakfast, for I am very hungry. May I cut your grass? Is there something else you have that I can do?” She said his appearance disgusted her. She stood there and looked down on him with her hands on her hips, telling him in severe tones that she had no patience with tramps and that she never gave them…
