Tom Landry, former coach of the Dallas Cowboys on burnout and stress: Coaching, like a lot of other professions, has seen it share of burnout victims in recent years… I understand the burnout phenomenon. Pressure is part of the price you pay for the privilege of leadership. You can read any number of books on stress relief. But for me, two major factors explain my long survival (as a coach). The first is my faith. I’ve talked earlier about my life priorities as a Christian. Knowing your job isn’t the most important thing in your life relieves a lot of the pressure. And because I felt I was doing God’s will for my life, I knew I didn’t have to do it all in my own strength; God promises the necessary strength to those who follow Him.
