REACHING BABY BUSTERS
How do you reach the Generation X-ers? First, listen to them describe themselves. George Barna’s book, Baby Busters, has these self-descriptions of today’s youth: they are outgoing, naturally curious, busy — a third are stressed out — almost all are hard workers, and three- quarters say they are Christians but only one-quarter describe themselves as “born again.” Two-thirds say they are easy to please, and over half are skeptics. In the battle for the hearts and minds of these kids, the church isn’t losing, “it’s getting trampled.” The real question to ask, “Is your ministry dangerous enough to make a long-term difference in kids’ lives?” Quoted by Michael Warren, “The World’s Most Dangerous Youth Ministry,” Group Magazine, November & December, 1994
