LEARNING TO SKI
I have enjoyed downhill skiing ever since my father took me to Four Seasons Ski Area in Lyle, Illinois. I learned to ski on a gentle slope that was small and well-populated with skiers. The basic procedure was to hold onto the rope, get to the top of the hill, ski straight down, turn sideways, and hit the snow fence — then repeat the process. Then we moved to Colorado! The new skiing terrain was like going to heaven — no more ropes, no more gentle slopes, no more snow fences to assure that I stop at the appropriate time. There has been only one constant throughout my skiing experience — other than snow — and that is falling down. Falling down can be avoided by a skier.
