NOT-SO- PERFECT WORSHIP
While on vacation in a small town in Colorado, we looked up the local United Methodist Church and went to services. The pastor was away at Seminary and had left the church in the capable hands of the lay people. They had decided to have an old fashioned song fest with a few specials from the choir thrown in. Everyone got to choose their favorite hymn or song from a little contemporary song book that was in the pews. It really was a lot of fun. The people really seemed to enjoy it. Especially the two women who accompanied themselves on accordion. The only problem was, they weren’t playing the same thing. They stopped and told the congregation, “We’re not very good but we’re loud. And we have fun.” They started again, this time with the pianist standing up and trying to direct and lead the congregation in singing. They sort of all got together, part of the time. That wouldn’t…
