As adults, many of us think we know all there is to know about the miracles of Jesus. Many of us can probably recite most of the stories by heart. But we must not allow such familiarity to rob them of their power to teach us something new about ourselves or to experience something new within ourselves. If so, perhaps we should read them again, this time with the freshness, the curiosity, and the wonder of my six-year-old neighbor, Therese.

I had just finished reading the story of Bartimaeus, the blind man whose sight was restored by Jesus. At least I thought I had finished the story. But before I could put the Bible down, little Therese asked excitedly, “And then what happened?”1
