A MATTER OF VALUES
After WWI, a great praise service was held in Royal Albert Hall in London; and the Irish playwright George Bernard Shaw was seated on the platform next to Joseph Fort Newton, then pastor of London’s City Temple. The huge assembly sang Isaac Watt’s hymn “O God, Our Help in Ages Past,” based on Psalm 90. When the song ended, Shaw, deeply moved, said to Newton, “I’d rather have written that hymn than all my silly plays.” Told by Frank E.
