A little girl named “Nancy” is the featured character in the syndicated comic strip of the same name. In one of the strips, Nancy has one hand on her hip and the other pointing skyward as she says defiantly:

Things will be different when I’m an adult. When I have kids of my own, I’m going to let them do whatever they want, whenever they want.

She folds her arms, and thinks it over. Then, in the final panel, with a self-satisfied look on her face, she says:

As long as they do it my way.

Nice try, Nancy, but let’s hope that when you are an adult and have kids of your own, you’ll let them do whatever they want, whenever they want, as long as they do it God’s way. Let’s hope that, in the Apostle Paul’s words, they’ll “love each other with brotherly affection” and “serve the Lord enthusiastically” and “contribute to each other’s needs” and “overcome evil…
