MIRACLES
Some years ago, the book The Song of Bernadette, was topping sales in bookstores everywhere and later it was made into a popular movie. There is a story behind how the book was written and it goes back to World War II when the famous Jewish author, Franz Werfel, slipped through the Nazi lines with his wife. The Nazis heard of the escape and set out after the two to hunt them down. Werfel had planned to get to Spain and from there to get passage to the United States. When he reached the Spanish border, however, he was refused entry. Crushed and frightened, Werfel and his wife took temporary refuge in a nearby village. The name of the village was Lourdes, the famous shrine where pilgrims come from all over the world for help and healing. That night Werfel visited the shrine himself.
