THE INNER CIRCLE
It is the nature of life that we are more available to some than others. There is that inner circle of people who we want to hear from and who are always invited to avoid the formalities and come right into our lives. In his eulogy to Malcolm Baldridge, the late Secretary of Commerce, President Reagan described his colleague as “direct and unpretentious.” Baldridge was killed in a rodeo accident in which his horse fell back on him. Reagan told how Baldridge had ordered his staff to interrupt him for only two types of phone calls. The President said, “I was one, and any cowboy who rang up was the other.” Adapted from report in Time.
