You’ve Got A Lot To Live

Two of the characters in the Gospel Story of the Child Jesus being presented at the Temple are named Simeon and Anna. Both are old. Anna is eighty-four. Simeon’s age is not revealed but Luke makes it clear that he too is a very old person. But age was no barrier to Anna’s and Simeon’s right relationship with this Child. This is remarkable when you consider that when Jesus grew into manhood and began His public ministry, He selected young men to be His First Apostles. And it took them years to understand that indeed He was the Messiah sent by God to save His people. They didn’t really have a firm grasp of this until after the Resurrection. But that pious old pair in the Temple knew at once. Somehow they intuited what that Child was all about.
