When you find yourself in the middle of really tough times — you cry out, like Job — “What’s going on here, anyway, God?” Farmer Brown had really bad troubles. First he got caught up in the crash of commodity and farm-land prices during the great disinflation of th 80’s. Then interest rates were eating him alive and he was about to lose his farm. But he told himself to cheer up, things could be worse. So he cheered up, and sure enough, they got worse. His wife ran off to Australia with a professional wrestler. His daughter ran off and ended up working in a massage parlor. His son joined the Hare Krishna and spent his days dancing around airports in a yellow robe and holding out a cup and bugging people.
