THE SEASON
We left the house in a pouring rain storm. Hurrying to the car my head was racing with details of the day ahead. Expected events and unexpected events were crowding an already packed day. As I eased across an overflowing gutter I felt pushed by the fact that now I had to drive my daughter to school instead of having her walk. After all, that would take another 10 minutes out of my day. Ten minutes I didn’t have to spare. But in the midst of it all I encountered Grace. The grace of God which arrests us in mid- stride. As I crossed the flowing gutter my daughter exclaimed with a bright voice, “What a great day for racing sticks!” This is the season of Advent. The season we celebrate with themes such as watching, waiting, expecting, and listening. All themes having to do with getting each of us to slow down and see what is there. Namely, our Lord God.…
