A BAPTISM TO REMEMBER
As the new associate pastor of a Baptist church in Memphis, Tennessee, my husband was given the responsibility of baptizing all baptismal candidates. One Sunday, in preparing for a baptism, he went to a room behind the baptistery to put on his waders and robe. Because the waders always wrinkled his slacks, he decided to remove them before putting the waders on. As he pulled the waders over his bare legs, he felt something crawling up one leg, then up the other. Quickly he tore the waders off, opened the exit door, turned the waders inside out and slung them around over his head, sending a whole family of crickets flying through the air as he proceeded out the door. Not until he was sure he had all of the crickets out did he realize he was standing on the front lawn of the church in his boxer shorts, much to the amazement of late arriving worshippers.
