Many of us find it very easy, I am sure, to identify with the disciple who came to Jesus and said, “Lord, teach us how to pray.” Lord, teach us more than words and phrases to say. Teach us how to pray!
We know that prayer is important, but many times we go through the motions of praying and nothing important seems to happen. And we tend to get discouraged-or we give it up altogether.
When we read, in Mark’s Gospel, about the events of the first day in Jesus’ ministry, we cannot help but notice what a demanding day it must have been for Him: to call the first Apostles and begin to explain to them what He was about; to heal the many sick people who came to Him for help; to cause such a sensation that crowds of people were pressing in on Him with their needs and their demands; to try to teach and preach to the people about…
