The following is an excerpt from Bill Moyers’ interview with management guru Peter Drucker: MOYERS: So do you look forward to the twenty-first century? DRUCKER: I do look forward to it, but I’m exceedingly happy that I’m not twenty again. It’s a very harsh world for young people. There are too many opportunities and too much pressure. Everybody has to be a success. In my time, if you were born a farmer’s son, you were a farmer. If you were born a blue-collar worker’s son, you were a blue-collar worker. Today, the pressure to be a success is not healthy. We are pushing young people terribly. Sometimes, when I look at my grandchildren and the kinds of choices they have at age seventeen, I think too much of a burden is being put on them.
