LEADERSHIP
If there is one name that would be synonymous with leadership in this decade it would be Lee Iacocca. In the 60’s and 70’s Iacocca was the president of Ford and the number 2 man behind Henry Ford III. He was perhaps best known as the “father of the Mustang.” In July of 1978 fueled by disagreements with Henry Ford, this son of Italian immigrants was fired from his position where he had served Ford so well. In November of ’78 Lee took over as president of the then faltering Chrysler Company. The Detroit Free Press carried two headlines the day after Iacocca took the job: “Chrysler Losses Are Worst Ever,” and “Lee Iacocca Joins Chrysler.” What a reception! It is hard to believe, but by 1983, under the leadership of Lee Iacocca, Chrysler experienced a profit of 925 million dollars!
