When you stop and think about it, willingness is the one thing we humans bring to the process of creation. We did not call ourselves into being, or have any “say-so” about the potential that is within us. That vast pressure toward maturity which courses throughout all creation is not of our making; it is of God. The only thing we can bring to this process is our willingness or unwillingness. We are so made that we can choose either to flow with the universe and grow toward God’s dream for us or to set ourselves against the tide and refuse to move. This is why the element of desire is so important. If it is present, then literally all things are possible under God. If it is not, then not even an omnipotent God is willing to force it to be.
