WISE INVESTMENT THAT PAID
When Orvil Reid went to Mexico as a missionary he met twelve-year old Jose Gonzalez. Jose had come to Guadalajara to find work. He slept in the ovens of a bakery after they cooled at night. Reid invited Jose to live in the student home he had started. The boy worked in a print shop while going to school. He eventually graduated from medical school at the University of Guadalajara and became a leading internist and cardiologist. For a while Dr. Gonzalez was chief resident at Methodist Hospital in Dallas before returning to Guadalajara where he is now director of the Mexican American Hospital. Orvil Reid has now retired and is living in Dallas. Some time ago he suffered a stroke. When Reid’s wife called a doctor-friend, Dr. Gonzalez, who was visiting in Dallas, answered the phone.
