Film critic Michael Medved, co-host of PBS’s Sneak Previews, likens his job to that of a “sewer inspector.” Hollywood writers and producers are “hugely out of touch” with church goers and “that’s the way it shows up on film,” says Medved, who describes himself as an active and traditionally-observant Jew. Medved says, with few exceptions, most of today’s films mock religion and traditional values. “Whenever they show somebody in the movies who is a religious figure, he’s going to be ridiculed,” he said. “If you see a priest or a nun or a minister of any kind, chances are they will be portrayed as corrupt, or crazy or usually both.” Nick Eicher interviewed Medved for World from Medved’s home in Los Angeles.
