THE FIRST STORY
Our new coeditor will begin by telling a story of pastoral embarrassment. A number of years ago I was pastoring my first church in a suburban area. The church had just purchased a new sound system and I was acquainting myself with it. Late Saturday night, I was in front of the auditorium, practicing my sermon and adjusting the sound system. I was enjoying myself so much I did a little singing which was not typically my practice. After the “concert,” I decided to record my singing and sermon, then sit down and enjoy the fruits of my labor. This I did. As I listened to the unfamiliar sound of my own voice, I noticed that not all of the sound was coming from the speakers in the auditorium. I walked around the church building, trying to locate the sound. I returned to the auditorium without finding the sound. Then it hit me. We had installed wiring to outside speakers. The…
