PLAYING TO THE END
Basketball lost one of its greats Sunday night, March 4, 1990 in Los Angeles. Hank Gathers (HANK THE BANK) slam-dunked a long pass and fell to the floor. He had collapsed. This well-liked player was an inspiration to players and fans alike and was a favorite of children. A similar circumstance had occurred in December, when he had fainted and was given a heartbeat regulator called Inderal for an irregular heartbeat. He could have stopped at that point and played it safe. Instead, he chose to act out his love. Basketball was more than a game – it was his life. At what point of discomfort or personal danger do christians get out of the game. If so much can be risked in sports, how much more should be risked for the eternal values at stake in the kingdom of God?
