A multi-story building had been occupied for several years when a disturbing crack appeared in a wall on the 42nd floor. The managing director of the company that owned the building immediately sent for an architect to come and investigate. When the architect arrived, the managing director took the elevator to the 42nd floor to meet him. But the architect was nowhere to be found. Eventually he was discovered in the sixth basement. The managing director was angry and, after arriving in the sixth basement, he said to the architect, “What are you doing down here? We have a serious crack on the 42nd floor that needs immediate investigation.” The architect replied, “Sir, you may have a crack on the 42nd floor, but your problem is not on the 42nd floor.
