LONG-WINDED DRIVING
We were driving to visit Grandma and Grandpa for the Christmas holidays. Since they live in Illinois and we live in Minnesota, the drive down can become quite long, especially if you are only five years old. We had been in the car for several hours, when Rachel, then five, asked the inevitable question, “Are we almost there?” I said, “No, we are still 150 miles away.” hoping the sound of distance would have more meaning for her than time. She asked, “Well, how long is that?” “Well Rachel, it’s about three more hours.” She didn’t say anything for a few moments as she thought about what three hours must be. She leaned forward from the backseat to the front, making sure she could see my wife’s face and said, “Mommy, is that as long as one of Daddy’s sermons?” We almost had to pull over and stop driving for a few minutes.
