A great deal has been said in recent years about Christians who have received the gift of tongues. Many good things can come from this gift that is given to some Christians. A great deal more should be said about Christians who have received the gift of ears because, while the gift of tongues is given to some Christians, the gift of ears is given to all Christians.

In Mark’s Gospel, Jesus is asked which of all the more than six hundred Commandments in the Jewish Law is the first and greatest. Jesus’ response begins with a verse from the Old Testament Book of Deuteronomy: “Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God is Lord alone! Therefore, you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength” (Mk. 12; 30).
