JESUS OR BOOTS
Secretary of State James Baker met with Edward Shevardnadze in Jackson, Wyoming last September to discuss important matters of State. After two productive days, the two men exchanged gifts. Baker gave the Russian Foreign Minister a pair of cowboy boots in keeping with the western motif, but Shevardnadze gave him an enamel picture of Jesus teaching the people. He said in presenting the gift to Baker, “You see, even we Communists are changing our world view.” From a recent issue of Mission Update, published by the Presbyterian Center for Mission Studies, reported by General Director Matthew J.
