A HIGH PRICE FOR CHANGE
What is it you and I are willing to die for? Centuries ago on the island of Taiwan there lived a kind and benevolent ruler named Goho. Being humane, one of the things Goho did was to persuade his tribes to abandon their ancient custom of human sacrifice. He convinced them to substitute an ox or a pig as the victim for their annual offering. For forty years the new practice continued. But then one year the harvest was unusually poor and the leaders of the people came to Goho. “The animal sacrifices will not do,” they said with determination. “The gods are angry. We must have a human victim once again.” Goho argued and pleaded with them in vain.
