IN FRONT OF OURSELVES
We are physically made so that we can walk more easily forward than backward. It is easier to manipulate our hands in front of us than behind us. A little girl discovered this principle when she was trying to button the buttons on the back of her dress. The frustrated little girl exclaimed, “How can I button these buttons when I am in front of myself?” Yet temporally we see better looking backward. We see what is behind us, but not that which is yet to come. Hence, the tension between “forward drive” and the “backward pull of life.” Easter provides the balance for this tension. We look backward to the resurrection of Jesus Christ, and move ahead toward a living Christ Who is always with us. From Now to Live, by Dr. Ralph W. Sockman
