NEVER TOO OLD
An elderly couple of my acquaintance no longer is able to keep house for themselves. They share a small room at a nursing home. Over the years they attended church faithfully. Now she is bedfast, and his health is failing rapidly. I have visited them often, conversing only with him. She is comatose. Today I was asking if he would like me to come by for him tomorrow for church. Before he could answer we were surprised by her voice, “I’ll go, I’ll go!” The boundary of the comatose could not prevent the excitement of the shut-in when she thought about going to her church! Only four words, but what an eloquent sermon. What a rebuke. Multitudes have enough religion to know what church they are staying away from, yet here was an invalid who would give anything if she could only get out of bed, dress herself, and go to church just one more time. “Dear God, please forgive me…
