THE MISSING STRING I
‘m the owner of a 12-string guitar. Not being a perfectionist, quite often I have tolerance for sounds that require finer tuning. One day I broke the G-string. With a 12-string guitar there’s another G-string at a different octave. I nonchalantly went on playing, neglecting to replace the broken string. Over a period of time, I noticed a vibration that began to rattle several of the tuning knobs. The remaining G- string now seemed unaffected. The reason for the resonance could not be traced to the missing string. I remained quite lenient towards the alien sounds until I realized other people might be puzzled by the growing dissonance. I decided to take my guitar to a music store for repairs. I wondered whether perhaps a crack had developed in the neck of the guitar.
