JUST CAN’T CATCH UP
As our church observed the annual ritual of presenting flowers on Mother’s Day, we first gave a carnation to the newest mother. Next we gave a flower to the mother with the most children present. Last, we gave a carnation to the oldest mother. When the final three mothers remaining in the last category told their ages, one sat dejectedly next to my wife who was in the choir and whispered seriously, “She was older than me last year, too.” From “A Funny Thing Happened…,” January, 1990, by Mark Edworthy, First Baptist Church, Celeste, Texas.
