EQUAL TIME FOR MOMS
A strange thing happened to me when I became a father back in 1974. I also became a feminist. Having daughters who would one day make their way in a world which still shows remarkable insensitivity to women made me mad enough to try and change things. First off, I had and still have a lot of work to do in my own attitudes and conduct. But more recently, I was planning a worship service for a Sunday on which we read the Bible’s account of the story of Ruth and Miriam, and also the story of Mary Magdalene and her discovery of the Risen Christ in the garden where he had been buried just a few days before. I looked through our church’s hymnal to find a hymn that thanked God for all that our foremothers in the faith had given to us, and guess what, there really were none.
