SPELL OR SELL
A newly-hired traveling salesman wrote his first report to the home office. It stunned the executives in the sales department because it was obvious that the “new help” was a very poor speller and lacked a grasp of the fundamentals of English. This is what he wrote: “I seen this outfit which they never bought a dime’s worth of nothin’ from us and I sole them some goods. I am now going to Chicawgo.” Before the services of the salesman could be terminated by the sales manager, this letter came from Chicago, “I cum here and sole them haff a millyon.” Fearful if he did, and afraid if he did not fire the man, the sales manager dumped the problem in the lap of the president. The following morning the executives and office personnel were amazed to see a memo from the president posted on the bulletin board with the two letters written by the new salesman.
