Desire | Sin | Submission | Temptation | Weakness

SEEDS OF SIN
For temptation to conceive (become sin), two ingredients are necessary, just as two ingredients are necessary for the conception of a human baby. Essential are the contributions of both the father and mother, the egg and the sperm. Similarly, James (the book of James) uses the idea of conception, consisting of two parts, to show us how temptation works. We have the external event, which provides the source of temptation – perhaps a television program, a picture from a magazine, or the sight of an actual person. We also have the internal response, which, according to James, “originates out of our own lusts.” We choose either to dismiss the temptation or to give in to it. Frequently and tragically, we do the latter. From Before Burnout, pg. 111, by The Minirth-Meier Clinic, published by Moody Press, Chicago, Illinois
