KNOWING SIN
The mother of John Wesley sent a letter to her son, who was a student at Oxford University. It contained a stated rule of thumb concerning what kinds of convictions to have. Her words are wise: “Whatever weakens your reason, impairs the tenderness of your conscience, obscures your sense of God, or takes off the relish of spiritual things, whatever increases the authority of your body over your mind, that thing for you is sin.”
