During the college football season when many will be cheering on their favorite team, we recall the story about Notre Dame traveling to a much-anticipated game against one of its chief rivals. A reporter met them at the airport and cornered the team’s head coach. “It has been widely reported that your football squad always travels with a priest to pray for the team’s success. I would love the opportunity to interview the Chaplain. Would you mind introducing me?” the reporter asked.
“No problem!” the coach eagerly replied. “Tell me, which one do you want to meet? The Offensive, Defensive, or Special Teams Chaplain?”
As Christians, we don’t need three Chaplains. We have the Lord our God who gives swift justice to those who call on Him day and night.
We have the Lord our God who assures us, if we pray without ceasing, He will never abandon us.
