A REASON FOR AFFLICTION
A linesman for an electric company was working on a new utility pole which was wet and green; the street was wet, and overhead was a high line carrying 33,000 volts. As the new pole was hoisted, the linesman thoughtlessly seized the bottom end as it swung clear of the ground. He was guiding the pole into place when one of his buddies suddenly ran for him and knocked him sprawling on the ground. As the linesman looked up from the ground, he saw that the wet pole had touched the lower high-line wire. But for the abrupt blow from his friend, he would have lost his life. Would God do less to save us? Let us look at the blows we have received recently and see whether there is more meaning than we first grasped. Some blows are saving strokes! “It is good for me that I have been afflicted” (Psa. 119:71).
