FINDING FRIENDS
While sitting on the church auditorium platform this past Sunday, I was looking for an opening transition to follow the soloist. As I gazed into the congregation of approximately 800 people seeking to make eye contact with as many people as possible, the following introduction came to mind. “Following my sermon a couple of weeks back, a church member came up to me and said, ‘Pastor, you seem to scan the congregation every Sunday morning prior to preaching as if searching for someone.’ I explained that I was, indeed, seeking to make eye contact with as many friends as possible before delivering the message. He then responded, ‘Well, from the way you look out into the congregation, you either think you have a lot of friends, or that one keeps changing seats from Sunday to Sunday!'”
