CAT CELEBRATION
Last year in Britain someone gave me a humorous book entitled The Book of Heroic Failures, a handbook of the “Not-So-Good Club of Britain.” It opens with this statement: “Success is overrated; it is incompetence that we are good at.” Inside the book are several stories of failures, including one that took place in 1978 during a firemen’s strike in a certain part of Britain. The armed forces stepped in to fill the gap for the time being, and one afternoon they got a call from a lady whose cat was caught in a tree and couldn’t get down. The soldiers got their equipment rushed over to her home in a matter of minutes. They put up a ladder, brought down the cat, and gave it to the woman.
