Busyness | Christmas | Family | Loneliness | Poetry

A LONELY CHRISTMAS CONTRAST
The turkey’s roasting in the oven.
The kids are still overwhelmed
By all the candy and toys.
Aunt Emma’s ‘coaching’ mom
On the finer points of cooking.
Uncle Henry’s still looking for someone
Who will listen to his stories.
Dad’s trying to watch the game,
But Grandpa keeps interrupting.
Grandma’s busy dividing her time
Between the fights in the kitchen
And keeping Grandpa’s cigar unlit.
And somewhere, to someone, Christmas
Is the loneliest time of the year.
