CAN’T MISS THE MARK
I like the story of the traveling salesman who was driving down a rural backroad when he came upon a surprising sight. On the side of a large barn was a row of archery targets. The amazing thing was that in the center of each bull’s-eye was an arrow. The salesman was so taken by the accuracy of the shots that he pulled to the side of the road to inquire who the expert marksman was. He found the farmer and asked who had shot the arrows into the barn. The farmer said, “I did. Taken aback, the salesman exclaimed, “You mean that you can shoot an arrow into the bull’s-eye every time? That’s incredible!” The farmer looked down at his feet and mumbled, “Shucks, ain’t nothin’ to it. I just shoot the arrow into the barn and then paint the target around it.” From Embrace the Spirit, by Stephen Harper, published by Victor, pgs. 27 – 28
