SINGING THE TUNE TOGETHER
Some months ago a group of adults on retreat gathered in a big hall for a time of recreation. In one game we each drew a slip of paper with a fragment from a popular song or hymn written on it. We were to sing our respective phrases until we found those who had other fragments of the same song. After several minutes of jumbled words and melodies crisscrossing the room amid much laughter, all of us had found our songmates. All except for one person, that is. One man stood alone in the center of the room, plaintively singing his phrase over and over, his eyes searching the room for partners: “Jesus is mine… Jesus is mine… Jesus is mine…” When it became clear to everyone there were no partners for his particular song, the whole group decided to take up his cause.
