Good morning, boys and girls! Today, I want you to listen to a prayer a young person has written:
Dear God,
So far today, I am being good.
I haven’t been mean to anyone.
I haven’t been grumpy.
I haven’t been stingy.
I haven’t been disobedient.
But I’m still really sleepy, and as soon as
I get out of bed, God,
I might need Your help to start the day!
That’s a funny prayer, boys and girls because even though the writer claims to have been good that day, he hasn’t gotten out of bed yet. Of course, we’ve all been good before we get out of bed because we haven’t yet had a chance to get ourselves into trouble!
Have you ever heard someone say, “Gee, I wish I had never gotten out of bed today!” That is usually a good sign, boys and girls, that the person is not having a good day! Well, let me tell you something. There aren’t any good DAYS or bad DAYS — it’s really up to you how good your days will be.
Here’s a prayer, boys and girls, that maybe we can all say next week.
Dear God,
So far today, I am being good.
I haven’t been mean to anyone.
I haven’t been grumpy.
I haven’t been stingy.
I haven’t been disobedient.
But I am very sleepy now, and it is getting late. So, thank God for giving me such a wonderful day to do my best. Good night!

Good morning, girls and boys! Today, I want to discuss a subject we know much about. But before I tell you what it is, I’d like to give you a few clues and ask you to guess! Okay — here goes:
1) It makes the world go ’round.
2) It’s at the end of the rainbow
3) It’s ever-changing
May I have some guesses? — Love? Good guess, but that’s not it. Anyone else? Friendship? No, I’m sorry, but that’s not it either. Education? No, I’m afraid not. Those are all excellent guesses, but I’m talking about the answer most people seem to be giving these days: M-O-N-E-Y! Money!
And you know what, boys and girls, even though we are told in songs, movies, greeting cards, and television that “Money makes the world go round,” — it really doesn’t! All of our Christian family members know that the Love of God is what really makes the world go around!
Imagine this, boys and girls. Suppose you had the greatest mountain bike, skateboard, computer, and video games in the world. Suppose I told you that you had to give it all to another child? That would be pretty tough — wouldn’t it, boys and girls? I have some news for you: In the Bible, we learn that Jesus did just that! He told a very rich man who lived a good life that if he wanted to be a faithful and loyal follower, he must give up all of his money! Every bit of it!
Well, boys and girls, the important lesson for us today is not that you must give up everything. Rather, Jesus was teaching us a lesson in that story about learning what is most important. He is teaching us what our priorities (a word we learned before) should be. And we should all remember that while we need money to buy the clothes we wear, the food we eat, and the house we live in, it is not the most important thing in our lives. It is not the most important thing to have more toys, clothes, houses, or cars than everyone else. We have also learned that sharing with others who have less than we do is very important.
Okay, boys and girls. Here’s something easy to remember about money. What do you get if you buy something for a quarter that you pay for with a dollar? Change — that’s right! This week, let’s all try to start changing our ideas about money. Let’s try not to make it the first thing we think about. Let’s do what Jesus taught us and think of others first. That will please God — and that’s better than money in the bank.

Good morning, boys and girls! Today, we read in the Bible that Jesus came to earth not to be served but to serve others.
Imagine, boys and girls, that a great leader or political candidate visits our town or school. What would we do in the community to prepare? Well, maybe we’d plan a parade in that person’s honor. We’d ensure the city was cleaned up and looking its best. We might have a red carpet for the person to walk on. After the person arrived, we would listen to a speech and give the person a big round of applause. Maybe there would also be a terrific dinner or a special party in his or her honor.
Now imagine this! Another great leader comes to your town, and this time, instead of watching a big parade, the person comes right to you — not only to shake your hand but also to kneel before you to wash your feet! That’s crazy, you would say. But you know what, boys and girls? That’s precisely what Jesus did. He knelt before some of His followers, and He washed their feet! Why do you suppose He did this, boys and girls?
Well, we know the answer. Jesus came to us to do God’s work here on earth. His most important work was always helping others and putting others first. Jesus has been called “the Man for others.” Jesus gave many beautiful examples for His followers to teach them to do the same.
This week, boys and girls, let’s follow this excellent example. No, I’m not telling you to go out and wash other people’s feet — but I am asking you to think about this: the next time you find yourself thinking, “Gee, what’s in it for me — what am I going to get?” change your thinking and ask yourself, “How can I help someone else — what’s in it for them?” And when you do that, boys and girls, you’ll be shining the bright light of Jesus on others. You’ll be following the example of the greatest Leader there ever was.

Good morning, girls and boys! Today, we read in the Bible about a blind man who appeared among a crowd gathered to hear Jesus preach. The blind man asked Jesus to make him see again. He asked Jesus for a miracle. And guess what, boys and girls? Jesus granted the man’s wish and restored his sight. That’s amazing! And then Jesus told the man that it was his faith — his belief in God that saved him. Faith had restored his sight, and after that, the man became a follower of Jesus!
Boys and girls, that is a good lesson — not just for the blind man who believed in Jesus’ healing powers, but for all of us. The reason is, boys and girls, sometimes all of us are a little bit blind. That’s right! What I mean by this is that Jesus can be like a bright light for us. Jesus shines His goodness and love on us; sometimes, like the blind man, we don’t see the light.
Have you ever taken a mirror outside in the bright sunlight and pointed it toward the sun? What happens when you do this? That’s right, a powerful bright light will be reflected from the mirror! Well, boys and girls, as loyal followers of Jesus, you can be like that mirror. You can reflect the powerful, bright light of Jesus. How do you reflect this beautiful light? By being obedient to Jesus’ instruction to love one another. That’s how!
Now, let’s all go out this week and try to be shining examples of the goodness, love, and compassion that Jesus has for us.
