We need a sign of hope from God.

In today’s Old Testament reading, the long-suffering Psalmist expresses a yearning for divine direction, placing unwavering hope in God as a faithful teacher and Savior. “Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long” (Ps. 25:4-5)

Put another way, in the words of the poet:

I journeyed far with Pleasure,
She filled each step with cheer,
Yet left no lasting wisdom,
For all I seemed to hear.

I wandered then with Sorrow,
No words between us flowed;
But oh, the truths she taught my heart,
As silently we strode.

I walked with silent Sorrow,
Through shadows deep and long,
But found, within her quiet steps,
A hope both bright and strong.
