THE HARD WORK OF HATRED
It is hard work to hate someone. You have to make yourself deliberately stupid. You have to hold on to grievances, bad memories, and prejudices – hold on with a death grip. You have to keep your eyes closed very tightly to prevent yourself from seeing what is so obvious: The person you hate is a human being just like you. From “Who Is My Enemy?” by Lowell D. Steiker, Ladera Community Church, Portola Valley, California
