Every human heart longs for a place of safety. We look for a shelter from the storm, a hand strong enough to hold us, a love that will not let us go. We call it security. We call it peace. We call it home.
But again and again, we discover that our walls are fragile. Our fortresses fail. And so, the question presses on us: where is true security to be found?
Charles Schulz, the creator of Peanuts, once gave us a conversation between Lucy and Charlie Brown that still rings true. Lucy asks Charlie what he wants most in life. Charlie pauses, thinks for a moment, and says, “I think what I want most of all is security. It’s like when you’re a little kid, and you fall asleep in the back seat of the car at night on the way home. You don’t have to worry about anything. Your mom and dad are in the front seat, and they’re doing all the worrying.…
